Grand Rapids, MI Apr 17, 2009 – Arena Racing Grand Rapids capped off its’ inaugural season
with the Pennzoil Platinum Cup Series Driver Awards Banquet presented which was held Friday
night at the English Hill Terrace in Comstock Park, drivers, crew members, families and car
sponsors were in attendance to honor the 2009 award winners.
Tim Phillips of Otsego, MI , who posted 3 A Main victories, 1 C Main victory and 1 Last
Chance victory and 3 Top Dog Feature victories took home the Pennzoil Platinum Cup and
$10,000. Tim who is the owner of Advanced Automotive and promoter of the Great Lakes Mini
Cup Series lead the points race from wire to wire. Mike Bursley of Zeeland and owner of Perfect
Circle Race Cars and former Super Stock Champion at Berlin Raceway in 2007 finished in 2nd
winning 4 A Main races, 1 Last Chance and 3 Top Doge Feature victories. Clayton Marvel out of
Lowell Michigan finished in 3rd. Clayton is no stranger to the victory platform with an
impressive karting resume that includes 2 Divisional Championship, 1 Grand National
Championship. The banquet presentations included $35,000 in points fund money distributed to
drivers in each the top 20 of owner points.
