MARNE -- Times are changing at the Berlin Raceway, and it has nothing to do with new promoter Mike Blackmer and the new front-stretch grandstand, Victory Lane and pit road he has introduced.
Blackmer dropped the age requirement to 14 years old and has created a Young Guns class for kids 14-16, and four drivers took advantage of it.
Kelsey Steele, a 14-year old West Catholic sophomore, made history twice before approximately 4,300 fans when the 2009 season opened Saturday night.
Not only did Steele become the youngest driver to win a feature, but she is believed to be the first female in the track's 59-year history to win a main. Read the entire article here |

Miller takes 3rd Top Dog win; Florian claims title in season finale - 4/6/2009 10:55:00 AM
HAMPTON, Va. (Mar. 28) -- After two opening-lap mishaps moved him up to the pole position, Derek Miller seized command and rolled to victory in the 50-lap Top Dog feature, the main event of Relay For Life Night for Arena Racing USA's Hampton Roads series, held Saturday evening at the Hampton Coliseum. The win was Miller's fourth of the season, including three Top Dog victories and one A Main win.
Nelson Moody drew the pole and shared the front row with Michelle Pearl, the longtime Arena Racing veteran who was making her last start. After leading a couple of parade laps, Pearl dropped to the back of the pack, handing over her front-row spot to Mike Dayton.
Two attempts at getting the race under way produced two melees and jumbled the field. Officials ruled that Moody had jumped the green flag in both instances and relegated him to the rear of the field, putting Miller on the inside of Row 1. Read the entire article here |
